Facebook Event: Laura Murphy & Gemma Riggs Collaboration Laura Murphy, Choreographer and Gemma Riggs, Filmmaker have been working collaboratively since 2011. Both Artists were selected from their respective countries for an EU-led residency programme titled E-Motional Bodies and Cities. Within this project they worked collaboratively in Latvia, Romania, Ireland and the U.K. Since they have since received a number of funded commissions and their work has been shown in exhibitions and festivals internationally to include Cork Midsummer Festival (IRL), Folkestone Fringe (UK), Whitstable Biennial (UK) and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest. Their collaborative practice broadly explores the framing of the human body, and within that concepts of pace, repetition and duration as well as portraiture. The works they have made intentionally occupy a place between disciplines, implicating both visual art and choreographic practice. You Move Me - workshop and project You Move Me is a new project by Laura and Gemma. Funded by the Arts Council England, You Move Me involves creating a new choreography in collaboration with groups of participants from different geographical locations. The project is two fold, commencing with a workshop and followed by filming in domestic settings. The workshop explores each participant's individual gestural/everyday movements. Though a series of games and improvisations, observations and stories, the movements are gathered to create the choreography for You Move Me. The choreography becomes a score or a set of instructions which the participants can follow easily in her/his own way. Nothing is wrong! The choreography will be filmed in participant’s homes so that each individual one becomes a ‘moving portrait’ within their own domestic context. The individual portraits will be compiled & presented together as a projected installation to become a collective dance, where the interrelation between each one becomes a crucial choreographic device & implies narrative, however subtle.
