As a brief background, in no particular order;

• Zagare was the 2015 Lithuanian Capital of Culture.

• ZFF is coordinated by a small group of people who are passionate about Zagare.

• Our main aim is to create an event that inspires us, in the hope others will feel inspired too.

• ZFF is an environment for artists and performers from Lithuanian and abroad to come together and interact, be creative, inspire, and perform / exhibit in various venues in Zagare.

• “The word 'Fringe' comes from a 'Fringe of another Festival' or 'Fringe Arts'. 'Fringes' administer shared risk: not a single pot of money coming from one place to produce a programmed event, it is about support, development, accessibility and everyone involved, including artists, venues, audiences and funders, investing together in a creative platform and delivering a unique & organic occasion. They are born from passion and hard work; a passion for development, for creating a platform and for seeing and realising new ideas and initiatives. Fringes are exciting sparks where stars are made; they are the 'excellence' of the future.” [taken from the www.worldfringe.com]

• There are a great number of Fringe Festivals that happen all over the UK, Europe and across the world, and we love bringing the spirit of Fringe Festivals to Lithuania and the Baltic States.

• Zagare is a unique town, with an artistic soul,  with the feel of ‘time stood still’.

• There are many potential interesting venues, ranging from a derelict dairy to a 19th Century palace, and anything in between.

• If you want to take a chance on being involved in something memorable and be a part of its development and success, then we’re waiting to embrace your ideas.

• Zagare isn’t near a motorway, nor a railway line. Zagare is in a regional park with an island feel. Those who visit, intend to. Those who visit, return (except those who visit for the first time on a damp November day..) It has a declining and ageing population. It used to have a large Jewish population. It has the 2nd highest Roma community in Lithuania. It has high unemployment, and more and more unoccupied homes…Its population was 14,000 at the turn of the 20th Century…now it is less than 2,000.

• But...

• It has history, lots of it, its old, older than Riga, it has charm, it has intrigue, it has fast internet, it now has running water available for all homes, and it has the potential to leave an impression on you…

• Who are the people we want involved? You, your friends, and people you’d like to suggest collaborating with. Performance artists, film makers, installation artists, musicians, mural painters, theatre groups, photographers, …

• What we would like you to do? Interact with the local community, especially the young people, and Roma community. Create work together, inspire them, and build their confidence to believe…

• Please share this far and wide…
