For over 10 years Andrew Miksys has been exploring the Roma communities in Lithuania. The title of his project, BAXT, comes from a Romani word that translates into English as luck, fate, or fortune. The Roma, also known in English-speaking countries as Gypsies or Čigonai in Lithuanian, arrived in Europe from India around 1300 and in Lithuania around 1500.
Today the Roma are the largest minority group in Europe.
Andrew has photographed in Roma communities from Žagarė to Eišiškės, Seredžius and Vilnius.
In 2007, he published a book of photographs from the BAXT project and plans to publish a second edition of with additional photographs in 2018.
