Manta is a band from Rīga, Latvia formed in 2010 by Edgars Šubrovskis (ex-leader of the band "Hospitāļu iela") and Edgars Mākens (leader of the band "Gaujarts").
Unwilling to be pigeonholed into a specific genre, Manta mainly focuses on the songs themselves rather than the styles. As a result, their music features elements of reggae, psychedelic rock, experimental and other genres. Manta recorded their debut album in an analogue way on two tape recorders in "Bicycle systems" studio. The 11 song album was released as a CD on August 2014 and will be released as vinyl on May 2015.
The style of the album may be defined as eclectic: it's synthy-pop, followed by psychodelic rock, followed by minimalistic electro folk, followed by epic rock ballad, but is held together by prominent lead vocal of Edgars Šubrovskis (also author of all the songs and most lyrics) as well as overall style of songwriting.
