The Spirit of the Fridge - Tony Hawks

British comedian and author Tony Hawks has just realised he is a performance artist.
In 1997 he hitch-hiked around the circumference of Ireland with a fridge to win a one hundred pound bet.
The book he wrote about his ridiculous adventure became a best-seller and has sold over a million copies around the world.
He has decided that he needs 'the spirit of the fridge’ back in his life and he is coming to the Zagare fringe festival to create some fridge art with the people of the town.

Meninė akcija „Džiaugsmo upė"
Abejingų nepaliekančios, vizualiai ir emociškai įtraukiančios daugiau nei 3000 kamuolių ir juos valdančių atlikėjų eitynės. Tarsi pajutę laisvę, tačiau veikiami tik gravitacijos jėgos, jie įsiterpia į peizažą, kurdami naują, momentišką kraštovaizdį, lydimą daugiaplanių prasmių ir asociacijų. Tai įtraukianti ir atvira meninė akcija, prie kurios galima prisijungti tiesiogiai, keliauti jos maršrutu drauge, ar stebėti iš pasirinktų vietų.

„Džiaugsmo upė" kuriama apmąstant laisvės ir realumo santykį, o jos atlikime gimsta platūs šiandienos kontekstų ir aplinkybių įvaizdžiai, kurių kiekvienas yra teisingas. Galbūt laisvė – tik miražas? Oazė, kurią norime pasiekti, kad taptume geresniais? Tai santykinis dydis, nusakantis atstumą iki tikslo, kuris didėja tolygiai su įdedamų jį pasiekti pastangų kiekiu.
Meninė akcija „Džiaugsmo upė" sukurta 2023 m. Meninių Akcijų Savaitės metu, nepriklausomos šiuolaikinio šokio organizacijos „Be kompanijos" iniciatyva.

Paulius Markevičius – teatro režisierius, tarpdisciplininis menininkas, aktorius, teatro „Tolyn gilyn" meno vadovas. Paulius eksperimentuoja su įvairiomis žanro formomis, kuriose žiūrovas tampa neatsiejama kūrinio dalimi („Cafe existans”, „Alberai, WRU”, „Analizuojant žvėrį”).

Artistic Action “River of Joy”
A visually and emotionally engaging procession of more than 3,000 balls and the performers who guide them – an event that leaves no one indifferent. As if sensing freedom yet influenced only by gravity, they merge with the landscape, creating a new, momentary scenery filled with layered meanings and associations. This is an immersive and open artistic action that welcomes participation – you can join the procession, travel along its route, or observe from chosen spots.

“River of Joy” explores the relationship between freedom and reality, giving rise to wide-ranging reflections on today’s context and circumstances – each interpretation as valid as the next. Perhaps freedom is just a mirage? An oasis we strive to reach in hopes of becoming better? It may be a relative measure, describing the distance to a goal that grows in proportion to the effort invested in reaching it.

The “River of Joy” was created in 2023 during the Week of Artistic Actions, an initiative of the independent contemporary dance organization Be kompanijos.

Paulius Markevičius is a theatre director, interdisciplinary artist, actor, and the artistic director of the theatre collective Tolyn gilyn. His work experiments with genre forms in which the spectator becomes an inseparable part of the artwork (“Cafe existans,” “Alberai, WRU,” “Analyzing the Beast”).
